About the ArtThese architectural portraits are rendered in pen & ink using a technique known as pointillism or stipple. The detailed quality of the technique produces a look similar to that of an etching found in old book illustration before color printing became commonplace. This gives the subject a more distinctive dignity and presence befitting not only New England but also other places of character across America places where a sense of history and continuity is seen on the faces of its homes and public buildings. There are no shortcuts and no digital imaging involved in the process. Each dot is purposefully placed to create the image. This is art, not a digital image. |

About the Artist
After completing a Commercial Art degree Lou gained extensive experience working for a reproduction graphics firm, a photographic production company and several printing businesses where her design skills and technical knowledge contributed to the high quality results on which the reputation of these firms was based. Freelancing was a natural transition as Lou began designing logos, letterheads advertisements and brochures. At the same time Lou began to do architectural portraits of homes, barns and historical landmarks of her extensive travels throughout New England. In response to frequent requests and due to her perpetually increasing fondness of putting the image to paper, InkScapes of New England was formed to provide quality renderings of private and commercial properties for a wider audience. The renderings reproduce beautifully for marketing purposes and for personal use.
